Council's Commitment to Crushing the Counterfeit DVD Market

Officers crushing counterfeit DVDsBorough of Poole Trading Standard Officers and Dorset Police have joined forces to tackle the increasing problem of illegal trading of DVDs in Poole, which damages local economy and deprives honest traders of legitimate income.

Rogue traders have been targeting workers on industrial estates and in factories in Poole, as well as going door to door in some residential areas. Traders caught selling or found in possession of illegal DVDs with the intent to sell will be arrested and could face prosecution and a custodial sentence.

Poole residents are being urged not to purchase illegal DVDs, which typically have a very poor picture quality making viewing difficult and in some cases impossible. They are usually packaged in a thin cellophane wallet with a poor quality film cover.

Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole said: "With Borough of Poole and Dorset Police working together to reduce these illegal sales, we are committed to protecting consumers and safeguarding our local economy. Members of the public suspecting illegal activity of this nature should report it immediately."

Illegal traders can be reported to Trading Standards on 01202 261700 or Dorset Police on 01202 222222.
