16 May 08Result of Branksome East By-Election
A record breaking 34.95% of voters turned out to vote for a new Councillor for Poole's Branksome East ward following a by-election held on May 15.
Turnout for mid-term by-elections are usually very low with only around 22% of voters taking part.
Results of the by-election are as follows:

Following the by-election, Councillors for the Branksome East Ward are as follows:
Cllr Guy MONTROSE & Cllr Mrs Karen RAMPTON, both Conservative.
The election followed the recent death of Cllr Mary Hillman (Conservative).
The result means that Poole Council remains in Conservative overall control. There are 25 Conservative and 17 Liberal Democrat members.
Borough of Poole is made up of 42 Councillors from 16 wards.
