1 Nov 07New Award For Responsible Licensees
Poole Safe
is launching a new awards scheme to recognise the work of responsible pubs, clubs and bars in Poole.
All licensed premises in Poole will have the chance to take part in the 'Developing Excellence in the Licensed Trade Awards' (DELTA), which will acknowledge exceptional work and commitment in the licensing trade.
Pubs and other licensed premises will need to meet a set of criteria to become a DELTA Participating Premises (DPP), giving them automatic entry to the award scheme.
Premises will be assessed during routine visits and judged on four criteria: public safety; prevention of crime and disorder; the protection of children from harm; and the prevention of public nuisance. Poole Safe officers will assess policies and procedures, staff training, fire precautions and risk assessment.
Those premises which reach a set standard will be given an easily identifiable sticker for their windows so that local residents and visitors to Poole will be able to see at a glance, which premises in Poole are well managed and well run venues.
Those premises not meeting the criteria will be given feedback and a further visit will be arranged.
The 'Developing Excellence in the Licensed Trade Awards' (DELTA) is a development of the highly successful Safe and Sound Award scheme. However the new award scheme assesses all licensed premises in Poole, whereas the previous scheme was only available for those premises which applied.
The first annual DELTA event will be held in April and awards will be presented to premises and individuals demonstrating best practice. There will also be an overall DELTA award winner.
Cllr John Rampton, Chairman of Borough of Poole's Licensing Committee, said: "The new DELTA scheme gives every licensed premises in Poole the opportunity to present the excellent work they have been doing and their commitment to help keep customers safe. It's good news for customers as they will be able to identify which premises meet standards."
Chief Inspector Wesley Trickey, said: "This scheme will provide an excellent opportunity for good practise to be shared amongst all the licensed premises in Poole. Operating procedures across the board will continue to be raised and the high standards that many pubs and clubs are already achieving will be recognised and rewarded. "
