Have Your Say On The Best Right Of Way

Poole and Bournemouth residents are being asked how rights of way routes for walking, cycling and horse riding could be improved.

Residents feedback will be assessed for inclusion in the Rights of Way Improvement Plan link will open in new window (ROWIP). This is a statutory plan being developed jointly between the Borough of Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council link will open in new window, which will be published early in 2008.

Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation in Poole, said: "The benefits of safe, healthy and sustainable travel can play a significant role in creating a better environment for people to live. We are keen to hear from residents who have an opinion on the current routes available and how they think these could be improved for everyday purposes and recreational use ."

Cllr Robert Lawton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment in Bournemouth, says "Rights of way not only allow people to access our beautiful natural environment but they have the potential to be an important part of an integrated local transport network. This will make it easier for people to make everyday trips to school, the shops, work and the doctors. We are therefore keen for residents to participate in this consultation which can potentially be incorporated into the rights of way improvement plan "

In Poole and Bournemouth there are 89 kilometres of rights of way and 126 kilometres of cycleways identifying 450 legally recorded routes. These are available to more than 400,000 residents and over 8.5 million visitors each year.
