Walk And Explore At Upton Country Park

People visiting Upton Country Park are being given three new ways to explore the historic estate on foot.

The routes are designed to encourage people to explore the country park, which has more than 100 acres of woodland, parkland and shoreline.

The short, medium and long routes can be walked or run and offers people of all ages a chance to have a go at the sport of orienteering and progress to a greater challenge.

This project has been jointly funded by Borough of Poole and the National Lottery Awards for All link will open in new window programme.

Marker posts have been erected around the country park to set out each of the routes.

Justine Hawkes, Senior Open Spaces Ranger, Leisure Services, Borough of Poole, said: "There has been a lot of curiosity from visitors to the park as the marker posts have gone up. The courses are going to be a great asset for the park as they offer a great leisure opportunity that will really add to the visitor experience at the park."

Bill Brown, of Wessex Orienteering Club, said: "Our intention with this project is to provide an enjoyable facility for the community and to open up the exciting sport of orienteering to a wider public."

As well as providing a great family activity for visitors to Upton Country Park, the new routes are also designed to be used with schools and community groups.

The routes are free to use and will be open all year round. A basic information pack, with the essential map, is available for £1 at the Upton House kiosk and Peacock tearooms.
