29 Jun 07Cabinet Team Confirmed For Poole
A ten member Cabinet team for Poole has been confirmed following a meeting of the Council.
Members have voted to appoint an additional two Cabinet posts, which means, in addition to the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Council, there will be eight portfolio holders, each with responsibility for a specific area of the Council's services to ensure accountability and clarity of decision-making.
The Council has also adopted a single party Cabinet of ten Councillors to take responsibility for making detailed decisions on how the Council's strategies and policies are implemented and how the budget is spent.
The Cabinet includes the following Portfolio Holders:
- Cllr Brian Leverett - Leader of the Council
- Cllr Ann Stribley - Deputy Leader of the Council
- Cllr Peter Adams - Leisure and Culture
- Cllr Elaine Atkinson - Well-being and Housing
- Cllr Don Collier - Environment
- Cllr Mary Hillman - Equalities, Inclusion and Active Communities
- Cllr Ron Parker - Local Economy
- Cllr Neil Sorton - Resource Areas
- Cllr Mike White - Transportation and 'Schools for the Future'
- Cllr Tony Woodcock - Children's Social Services, Education and Youth Services
Leader of the Council, Cllr Brian Leverett, said: "We are looking forward to a time of great opportunity for Poole. With these opportunities come great challenges. By appointing two additional Cabinet members, we will be better able to address the important environmental and social issues facing Poole while delivering an ambitious £1 billion regeneration programme for the town and transforming our schools for the future."
Cllr Brian Leverett and Cllr Ann Stribley were elected as Leader and Deputy Leader of Poole's 42 Member Council at the Annual Council meeting on May 15.
A further six members were appointed to Cabinet at a meeting of the Council on May 24.
Following local elections on May 3, 2007, 42 Councillors were voted in across 16 wards. Poole now has 25 Conservative and 17 Liberal Democrats members.
