9 Jul 07Radius Showcase For Talented Artists
A new exhibition will showcase the work of talented artists from the Sea View Centre in Poole.
The "Radius" exhibition is being held at the Faith House Gallery, Holton Lee, Dorset, from July 9 to 23, and will profile nine artists who attend the centre, which offers leisure and learning opportunities for people with learning difficulties.
The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the talent and commitment of people with learning difficulties and their contribution to Dorset's arts community.
Art Instructor Mel Bennett has worked with all the artists to create a showcase of their individual talents, with a selection of artwork created in workshops at the centre.
The artists have used materials usually available within a day centre environment to create a contemporary collection which features a range of mediums, including painting, printmaking, ceramics and mixed-media work.
Anna Shiels, Arts Programme Manager for Adult Social Care and Well-being, Borough of Poole, said: "This project has been a creative journey for those involved and the exhibition aims to highlight the fantastic, but rarely seen, work achieved by individuals within a day care setting.
Mel Bennett, Arts Instructor at the Sea View Centre, said: "The exhibition is called Radius because all the artists involved are making work that reaches out from the day centre to Dorset's art community."
Cllr Mary Hillman, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Equalities, Inclusion and Active Communities, said: "This exhibition will highlight the hard work and inspiration of all the artists. Borough of Poole recognises the importance of such projects and welcomes the opportunity to showcase the artists' impressive work."
