The first meeting of a brand new Customer Liaison Panel was held on Friday (20/11/98) to look at the quality of standards and service in Building Control.Led by the Borough of Poole, the Building Control Customer Panel comprises representatives from Poole, Bournemouth, East Dorset, New Forest and Christchurch Local Authorities, as well as representatives from local construction industry, including architects, builders and structural engineers.
The new Panel will be instrumental in the development of high quality standards and service in building work across the conurbation. It will consider areas such as quality of service, effective communication of new building regulations to consumers and a review of compliments and complaints.
Councillor Jeff Allen, Chairman of the Planning and Transportation Committee said: "This is an opportunity to continue with the council's commitment to partnership working in order to provide the best service possible for customers in a competitive environment. By working with our neighbouring authorities, it allows for a consistent standard across the conurbation."
Alan Muzzall, Head of Borough of Poole's Building Consultancy Services said: "The panel will provide us with essential feedback to help guide the future development of our service. By way of a partnership, it benefits both our customers and Building Control Services by improving communication. It enables us to ensure that we all live and work in a safe and healthy place."
Richard Coleman, a Civil Engineer from Richard Coleman & Partners Ltd and Chairman of the Building Control Customer Panel, said; "Professionals within the building industry welcome this initiative by the Borough of Poole to bring together representatives from Local Authorities and the construction industry. By working together in this way we hope to develop a greater understanding and co-operation which will benefit our clients."
