Poole Museum Service looks after a large and diverse collection relating to Poole's history. This haas been collected over more than 130 years, and totals approximately 50,000 objects. These range from archaeology to zoology and cover many aspects of the history of Poole and its people.

Collections

Poole Museum's collections of maritime archaeology and Poole Pottery are of international importance. However the collections are wide ranging and include:

  • fine art
  • ceramics (particularly Poole Pottery)
  • archaeology
  • maritime and social history
  • local trades and industries
  • photographs
  • documents and ephemera
  • costume and textiles.

Many of the objects can be seen in the permanent and temporary displays in the Museum. For those in the reserve collections please contact the Museum to arrange a viewing.

Loans, donations and bequests

Items exhibited in our local museums may be provided by private individuals either on loan (usually for the duration of a temporary exhibition), as a donation or as a bequest upon the death of the owner.

Poole Museum Service will consider items offered on loan (usually for a temporary exhibition), donation or bequest. All offers will need to meet the museums service collecting criteria. For further information please email us.
