Apply for Council Tax Benefit

Council Tax benefit could help pay towards some, or all, of your Council Tax bill if you are on a low income, even if you own your home. The maximum amount of Council Tax benefit payable is 100% of the charge. The amount of help will depend on your income, personal and family circumstances. The Council will ignore any income you may get from war pensions or widows pensions.

Who can claim?

You may be eligible for Council Tax benefit if you:

You can get an estimate of your Council Tax Benefit using our benefits calculator link will open in new window.  You will need your annual Council Tax bill.

Second Adult Rebate

Second adult rebate is help with your council tax bill if you share your home with one or more adults.  Is the person who shares your home:

  • Aged 18 or over?
  • Not your partner?
  • Not paying you rent?
  • Not liable to pay council tax themselves?

If you can answer yes to all of these, then you may qualify for second adult rebate.

Second adult rebate is based on the circumstances of the person who shares your home.  Your income and savings will not affect second adult rebate.

If you are entitled to council tax benefit and second adult rebate we will pay the one which gives you the most money.
