Ordering Certificates

Certificates are certified copies of entries in the relevant registers. It is possible to request a certificate at any time.

  • Birth Certificates

For birth entries you can order copies of the birth entry using this application form. The full certificate is required for using as partial identity for requesting passports, or for employers, clubs etc.
  • Death Certificates

You can apply for certified copies of death entries using this application form.
  • Marriage Certificates

You can apply for certified copies of the marriage entry using this application form.

Alternatively you can apply by phone on 01202 633744, or in person at Poole Register Office. We are unable to produce certificates on a “while you wait” basis due to the number of orders we receive on a daily basis.

Please note that in cases where historical entries are requested, it can take up to two working days to locate the entry and process the orders.

Depending on the time of the order, certificates can usually be collected the same day or posted out first-class post.

Adoption certificates

Records of adoption in England and Wales since 1 January 1927 are kept by the Registrar General. A standard certificate is a full copy of the entry in the Adopted Children Register which, instead of details of parentage and birth registration, gives the date of birth (if it is known) and particulars of the adoption and adoptive parents. A short certificate shows only the name, and has no reference to adoption. Applications for Adoption Certificates should be made in writing to:

Adoptions section, Room C202, General Register Office, Trafalgar Rd, Southport, PR8 2HH.

Alternatively you can call them on: 0300 123 1837
